La Candelaria - Verdadera

Watercolor 14x11 sold
Here is a real typical man from "Old Bogota." The "cachaco" is traditional Bogotano. Rendered in the loose freewheeling style in order to capture the essence of the scene in the heart of La Candelaria.

Bill,

This painting demonstrates you have mastered your craft and successfully articulated your emotional response to this subject matter.
Impressive!!

I love the street clothes these guys wear,

The way you rendered the stipes in his suit is masterful.

His face is classic, reminds me of the old Italian guys used to walk around Little Italy, back when I grew up in Cleveland.

Great effects on his suit. Another great expression. He must be having a fantastic day.

Man in motion, frozen in time in someone else's suit. Startled in a bemused, resigned glance at the intrusion. Style is meaning.(Wasn't that a buzz phrase from English 100?)

Thx Jennifer... when you are passionate about your subject all else falls into place... if you persist. I never tire of these interesting characters!

Robin.. glad I could conjure up a connetion or stir a memory for you. My work is done when that happens and is the best compliment. I also like the stripes and didn't know how to approach it or render it till the piece was almost finished.

Thx Keewon.. I think any day for him walking around and enjoying the sunshine must be fantastic.

Great comment Ron... will take me a moment to parse the meaning...

He's got a string-bean look--not because he's skinny, but because he's got a wiggly style about him, maybe accentuated by his hat.
I always wondered what to call someone from Bogota.

Grimm that would be "cachaco" or "rolo." String bean... I like that!

I like that his sleeves are too long and he's got that old man arm swing going. Love how you handled the suit, it really has a nice effect.

Thx Will... I'm happy with the way this one reads... delivers the message I imagined I wanted delivered.
